In has been well known that several complications such as arthritis, pain and joint instability occur as the result of meniscectomy. Hence, a more reconstructive approach to the torn meniscus has been gaining factor.
Authors investigated the healing process of longitudinal lesions at the avascular portion of the meniscus in the knee of rabbit followed by filling the defect of the meniscus with the autogenous fibrin clot on one side and remaining the other
side
as a
control group. The healing process was studied morphologically and histologically each 1, 4, 8, 12, 16 weeks after operation. In fibrin inserted group. we observed a marked fibrosis in the defects of the meniscus and also fibrocartilagenous
transformation as a healing process.
As the above fact, we may try to apply the autogenous fibrin clot as a potential method to repair the avascular portion of injured meniscus, clinically.
